We understand that not everyone uses email regularly, and that not everyone has their own personal email address. As a result, you may want to use someone else’s email address to access our system, share an account with a friend or spouse, or used a shared (non-personal) email address to set up your account.
In this blog I will explain why none of the above situations work in Care Courses online accounts. And why every account needs a personal email address*.
There are several reasons why one Care Courses account cannot be shared by more than one person, why two Care Courses accounts cannot have the same email address, and why using a shared email address on your account can cause trouble.
- Email addresses are used by The Care Courses system to identify an individual student’s account. Once an email address has been assigned to an individual, it cannot be used by anyone else in our system. This is one reason you must not create an account using your friend’s email address. It is also a good reason not to use a shared email address.
Example: Jane and John Reynolds have a shared email “JaneandJohnReynolds@email.net” Jane uses this email to create her Care Courses account to take a course. Now John can’t use this email address to create his account when he wants to get credit for a course. Jane and John should each create personal email addresses* so they can each get credit for courses and have their own accounts. If Jane and John try to do their courses in the SAME account, they will get the same name on their certificates. Obviously, this isn’t what they need. Two certificates in Jane Reynolds name won’t help when licensing comes to visit!
- The Care Courses system generates messages, Enrollment Codes, receipts and other emailed information. It is important that these emails go to the person who owns the online account, at their own personal email address. Using a shared email address could mean someone else gets Enrollment Codes or other correspondence intended for you. So, always use a personal email address in your Care Courses account!
- Care Courses accounts are meant to be personal accounts. That is, each account belongs to one individual person and contains their order history and a record of the courses they have taken. If you work at a daycare center where you have an email address that is shared by all the employees for work purposes, you should not use this email to create your Care Courses account. This can very easily lead to confusion in regards to who purchased a course and who should get credit for it.
Example: Karen, Melissa, and Rachel all work at Happy Time Daycare. At work, they share the email HappyTimeDaycare@email.net, which works great for communicating about the center with parents. But suppose Karen decides to use the shared email as her Care Courses account email. Because it is a shared email, it would be very easy for Melissa or Rachel to log into Care Courses using the shared email address, and mistakenly take courses under Karen’s name. Karen will end up with courses she didn’t need, and Melissa and Rachel will have paid for courses that they can’t get credit for (without making a new purchase). By using personal email addresses, everyone can be sure they are logging into their own account when purchasing or taking a course.
