How Do I Use a New York EIP Award to Pay for Training?

Are you looking for a scholarship for your New York childcare training? Do you need free childcare training or discounted training? Are you wondering, “how do I use a New York EIP award to pay for training?”

Educational Incentive Program (EIP)

If you are a New York child care provider and would like to use an Educational Incentive Program (EIP) award to pay for Care Courses, you’re in luck!  All Care Courses are eligible for funding through the State University of New York (SUNY) EIP program. You can use this funding for our CDA training sets, CDA renewal sets, and our NY 30-hours in 10 topic area training.

In order to use the SUNY EIP award to pay for NY child care training with Care Courses, you must first apply for the award.  For more information about applying for the award, give us a call at 1–800-685‑7610 or go to the SUNY University of Albany’s Professional Development Program website.

Getting Started

To start the process, decide which Care Courses you want to complete. Then create your personal Care Courses account.

Once you have created your Care Courses account, log in or create an Early Childhood Education and Training Program (ECETP) account. Then, complete your online EIP APPLICATION. Please call us at 1–800-685‑7610 if you are using a paper application. When applying for a CDA training set, make sure to specify which CDA setting you want your training in: Preschool Center-Based, Infant/Toddler Center-Based, or Family Home.

Once you’ve applied online, wait for EIP to processes your application. You will then receive an email notifying you of your award or if additional documentation is required. Click on the link in the email from SUNY to accept the terms and conditions and electronically sign your EIP award. Looking for your award status? You can check the status of your application using the EIP award status search here.

There are two ways you can use the EIP award to pay for child care training with Care Courses. You may use the award when placing the order initially or for reimbursement after you’ve placed your order. Below is an explanation of each method:

How can I place my Care Courses order using my SUNY EIP award?

If you want to order NY child care training with Care Courses using your EIP award, you have to receive your award first.  Once you’ve applied for and are granted the award, you can place your order. How? Follow these simple steps:

  1. Digitally sign the EIP award sent to you by SUNY using the link in the approval email.
  2. Log into or create your Care Courses account and make sure your contact information is up to date and the email address in your Care Courses account matches the email address you used to apply for your EIP award. You can update your email address under the My Information area of your Care Courses account.
  3. Email Care Courses at info@carecourses.com to indicate which course format you want (online courses or CourseBook courses with online submission). Indicate what courses you have applied for using your EIP award and the date you signed the award in the email.
  4. Once we receive the signed online award, we will review and accept award. We will contact you if additional information is needed. We will then process the order for your course(s) and either send you the CourseBooks or the enrollment codes for the online courses (whichever format you indicated in your email to us).

Questions? Email us at info@carecourses.com or give us a call at 1–800-685‑7610!

Use EIP awards to pay for Care Courses

I need to place my order now but I still want to apply for the EIP award to pay for the Care Courses training, how can I receive reimbursement?

If you’ve already placed an order or need to place an order ASAP and still want to use the EIP award for reimbursement, Care Courses can help!

Once you’ve applied for and are granted the award:

  1. Order your Care Courses online or by giving us a call at 1–800-685‑7610. Write down your order number
  2. Email Care Courses at info@carecourses.com indicating that you are submitting an EIP award to Care Courses for reimbursement. Include the Care Courses order number for the courses that you received the award for.
  3. Digitally sign the online EIP award sent to you by SUNY
  4. Once we receive the online EIP award and your email, Care Courses will process a refund for the order you original placed up to the value of the EIP award.

All Care Courses are eligible for funding through SUNY’s Educational Incentive Program (aka EIP awards).

How do I fill out the EIP application form for Care Courses?

Review the questions in the online EIP application. Make sure to read the entire application.

Here are a few tips for completing the application for Care Courses:

  • The delivery type is “Distance Learning/Online Training”
  • The training type is “Training/Conference/Workshop”
  • The training start date is an estimate of when you will begin your training. We recommend about three weeks after the date you complete your application.
  • The training end date is the last calendar date of that year.

SUNY requires all courses paid for through EIP to be completed in the same calendar year that the award was granted. EIP scholarship applications must be received by December 1st of a calendar year to be considered for training in that calendar year.

Can I use my EIP award for my Child Development Associate (CDA) training and assessment fee?

Yes, EIP awards can be used to pay for NY continuing education training, CDA credential training, the CDA assessment fee, CDA renewal training and the CDA renewal fee. EIP awards cannot be used to pay for the CDA Council’s competency standards book.

Where Can I get Washington STARS Hours?

Are you looking for Washington MERIT hours for your annual training? If so, Care Courses offers excellent distance-learning courses for completing your required Washington STARS hours.

Washington’s State Training and Registry System (STARS) / Merit

Washington’s State Training and Registry System (STARS) records all employment, training, and educational histories for early childhood professionals in the state. Run by Washington’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), STARS – also referred to as the MERIT registry – is a great tool for learning valuable information about childcare. It can also help you locate relevant training opportunities.

Additionally, early childhood professionals in Washington State must complete STARS/MERIT approved continuing education. Providers in Washington who have been cumulatively working in child care for 12 months must complete 10 hours of annual STARS hours training each year. This requirement ensures that child care providers in Washington State are continually enhancing and improving their own skills.

Worried about completing your STARS hours on time? Look no further than Care Courses.

All Care Courses are approved through Washington STARS for continuing education clock hours. Our continuing education courses can be used for early childcare professionals who work in child care centers, family home child care programs, and school-age child care programs. Care Courses is for directors, volunteers, assistants, teachers, and everyone in between! To see our STARS hours approved courses, please visit MERIT’s website. Care Courses is found using the organization search.

When you create your Care Courses account, make sure to add your Washington state MERIT Registry ID number to your Care Courses account under the Info area of your account. We will report your training to the registry.

Care Courses is an OPDR approved training organization. Courses that offer less than 2 clock hours count as informal professional development with the OPDR. Ready to complete your training hours? See our online course catalog to get started!

Need to have your course submitted to the Oklahoma registry?

Add your Oklahoma registry ID to your Care Courses account. We will report your training to the Oklahoma registry so you get credit for your Oklahoma training hours. In most cases, Oklahoma requires that we submit training to the OPDR before we can release your certificate.

So, make sure to add your ID to your account! Once your Registry ID number is in your account, we will automatically report all future successfully completed courses to the OK registry.

Healthy Fall Snacks for Kids
Healthy Fall Snacks for Kids

Spooky Halloween Smiles Makes about five “smiles”

You will need:

1 apple, quartered and core removed – you may use either red or green apples, the green ones make the “gums” look especially creepy 5 tbs Sunbutter (or other preferred nut-free alternative spread) ¼ cup of raisins

What to do: 1. Take one apple quarter, slice it in half lengthwise, then again lengthwise. 2. Take one of the new pieces, spread peanut butter on it, then arrange the raisins so that they stick out. Think “teeth!” 3. Once you’ve arranged the teeth how you want them, place another apple slice on top.

Notes: Sliced almonds can be used in place of raisins. If you don’t plan to serve these right away, brush the apples with lemon juice so they don’t brown. Feel free to substitute all-natural, creamy peanut butter if there are no children with nut allergies.

How to Help Children Get Along: Supporting Children Treat Each Other Fairly

Children are always learning and observing from the world around them. This includes everything from the way you react to their mistakes to stereotypes in our society. It is your role as a childcare provider to notice children’s stereotypical attitudes, the stereotypical comments they make, and their actions that stem from these attitudes. By helping children notice the error of stereotypical images, early childhood professionals help children begin to develop a sense of fairness and justice. So, how do you help children get along?

By using an example of gender-based stereotypes from our course, First Steps in Child Care: An Orientation, we will discuss ways that you can help children learn to treat one another fairly and work together.

What is a stereotype?

A stereotype is a widely held idea that is based on partial or oversimplified information.

Have you noticed boys excluding girls from “real boy” play or from activities involving strength? When you see children express stereotypes, talk with children about how these attitudes and comments are based on false information.

  • Talk about how both boys and girls can be powerful helpers.
  • Read books about female athletes who are strong and fast or about brave, strong female firefighters. Read books about males in helping roles, such as male nurses or teachers. Read books about diversity.
  • Provide examples of both male and female musicians, carpenters, and artists.
  • Talk about children’s experiences with loving, caring fathers, uncles, and grandfathers as well as with loving, caring mothers, aunts, and grandmothers.
  • Introduce activities that involve foods, celebrations, and present-day customs of various groups.

Use expressions of unfair behaviors as opportunities to draw children’s attention to the importance of accepting diversity as a strength and figuring out ways to treat all people fairly and justly. Helping children explore differences in ability, culture, economic class, and racial identity, will provide them with accurate information, you broaden their awareness and understanding of diversity and fairness!

Stressed about getting this right? We are here to help. Check out our Care Courses blog on How do Child Care Providers Deal with Stress. How long does it take to get my Care Courses order?

How long does it take to get my Care Courses order? Whether you’ve got plenty of time to leisurely begin your Care Courses, or a tight deadline and want to get started fast, you want to know when your CourseBooks will arrive. Here’s some more information about how we process shipments that will help you know when to expect your books to show up in your mailbox.

Once you successfully place an order for CourseBooks, we begin the process of fulfilling it right away. Place your order before 3pm Eastern Time on a business day, and we will package and post your order on the same day.

How fast?

Now that your order is packaged, the time it takes for you to receive it depends on a few variables. The first of these variables is the shipping option you choose. We offer three options for domestic shipping:

  • Express Shipping: CourseBooks typically arrive in 1–2 business days.
  • Priority Shipping: CourseBooks typically arrive in 3–5* business days.
  • Free Standard Shipping: CourseBooks typically arrive in 10–15* business days.

We offer three shipping options to Canada:

  • Express Shipping: CourseBooks typically arrive in 3–5 business days.
  • Priority Shipping: CourseBooks typically arrive in 6–10 business days.
  • Free Standard Shipping: CourseBooks typically arrive in 8–15 business days.

For all non-US/Canada Shipping locations, our CourseBooks generally take 4–15 business days to arrive by Airmail Parcel Post.

For information on US/Canada Express and Priority shipping costs, as well as shipping costs to other countries, please check out this page.

Where to?

Another effect on shipping transit time is your location. Our office is located in Northern Virginia, so the closer you are to us, the less time it takes the United States Postal Service to deliver your order. If you are in a true emergency rush to receive your CourseBooks, we recommend using either our Express or Priority shipping options, as the Post Office has a better track record with the speed of these services. Our Free Standard Shipping option is often quite quick, but we cannot guarantee anything faster than 10–15 business days.
